The current VFW was first formed in 1914 from the merger of two prior veteran organizations which both arose in 1899. The VFW became a government-chartered non-profit organization by an act of the United States Congress in 1936. As the largest American organization of combat veterans, it continues to be the nation’s strongest voice for veterans and the catalyst for change in improving veteran’s benefits.

Disabled American Veterans- Chapter 25 - (423) 476-6917
Disabled American Veterans is an organization of disabled veterans who are focused on building better lives for disabled veterans and their families. Founded in 1920, this group holds a congressional charter under Title 36 of the United States Code.
Vietnam Veterans of America Inc.- Chapter 596 - (423) 667-7692
Vietnam Veterans of America was founded in 1978. It is the only national Vietnam Veterans organization congressionally chartered and exclusively dedicated to Vietnam-era veterans and their families.
AMVETS was founded on
December 10, 1944 by representatives from nine veterans clubs. On
July 23, 1947, President Truman signed Public Law 216, making AMVETS the first WW II organization to be chartered by Congress. AMVETS has a proud history of assisting veterans in many ways and sponsoring numerous programs that serve our country and its citizens.
The U.S. Submarine Veterans, Inc. was started in 1963 by a group of U.S. Submarine veterans of WW II to perpetuate the memory of shipmates who gave their lives in the pursuit of duties while serving their country. Members are submarine sailors who have served in World War II,
Korean War,
Vietnam War, the Cold War, Desert Storm and the continuing action in the War on Terror.
